What is June 16? – Answers
June 16 is a special day in history. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, but it did not reach slaves in states that were part of the Confederacy until much later. The Emancipation Proclamation eventually reached Texas June 19, 1865. For this reason we celebrate June 16th. June 16th is mainly celebrated in Texas and the surrounding states.
